Students seem quite happy to be back at school after the holiday break. We're expecting a GREAT year in our dynamic learning environment. A Few Openings Left for Second Semester
Raha has a few openings in grades five, six, seven, and eight for the second semester, and a waiting list for other grades. We encourage parents to apply even if there is a waiting list, as changes can occur quickly. We're also accepting applications for the 2012-2013 school year. To apply online, click.
Siblings of current students are given priority in admissions through the end of January, so please complete the admissions application for siblings by January 31. After the deadline, siblings will not be given priority in admissions.
International Day Thursday: One of Biggest Events of Year
More than 65 different nationalities attend our school of nearly 1,200 students.. We celebrate this amazing diversity on International Day each year. On Thursday, January 26, we'll begin with a morning assembly. with a guest speaker who encourages students to think like citizens of the world. In the afternoon, there's a "global village" in which students can visit dozens of nationalitiy booths and experience something unique that each culture has to offer Parents are cordially invited to attend. Canned Food Drive for International Day
What if this was your child and you didn't have enough food? Students have organized a food drive and are collecting cans for International Day. Each child or parent should bring at least one can for each child and adult in your household. For details, click.
38 Extra-curricular Activities Now Available for Students
Parents should see that their students sign up now for some of the more than three dozen extracurricular activities. Among the activities offered:
Creative: Piano, Senior School Orchestra, Super Variety Dance, Senior School Rock Band, Robotics
Sport: Waterpolo, Beginners’ Chess, Chess for Tactical Development, Horse Riding, and Sailing.
Cultural: Model United Nations, and French Club (Grades 4 and 5).
Academic: Personal Prject Help, Bridge the Gap Math, Mathletics, Computer, Computer Senior, and Theory of Knowledge Advancement.
Leadership/Service: Student Council and Wildlife Club.
New Activities include Card Making, Kite Surfing, Kayaking, Golf, Capoeira 4 Kids (Capoeira is an art form that involves co-ordination, sense of balance, acrobatics, rhythm, playing instruments, singing, concentration and respect for others. Raha Junior Chorus, Arabesque – Arabic Art & Calligraphy

To encourage the development and maintenance of Mother Tongues, and to celebrate cultural identity, Raha primary grade students participate in weekly clubs. Korean, Irish, German, Arabic, Afrikaans, Spanish, and English are offered. To peruse the clubs and times, click.

Two-minute Video Illuminates Learner Goals
This short video translates the mission statement in International Baccalaureate (IB) schools into a set of learning outcomes. Raha uses the prestigious IB curriculum. The IB learner profile provides a long-term vision of education. It illustrates the skills your child should be learning at our school. The video was produced by the global IB media team.
Fantastic UAE 40th Anniversary Celebration
For the 40th anniversary of the United Arab Emirates, Raha International School put on an all-day festival complete with native dress, indigenous music, exotic dance, camel and pony rides, tents filled with colorful rugs and treasure chests, Middle Eastern food, and a backfiring SUV decorated with symbols of the UAE. .For details, click.
Fun Holiday Bazaar
The Holiday Bazaar organizers would like to express their thanks to all vendors, the choir, people who came to the evening, helping hands (incl. bakers) and Santa for making the evening a success and special! Students Edge Teachers in Intense Volleyball Match

Latest Edition of Raha Voice Student Newspaper
Just before break, students published the latest edition of the Raha Voice, with reports on National Day, Abu Dhabi Film Festival, Family Fun Night at Al Forsan, the origins of Halloween, Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Broken Things, Think Pink, a movie review of "Truman Show," Raha's Got Talent, website reviews by Zapaer Alip, and a newspaper survey. New Digital Magazine Spotlights Raha
Taaleem, which means "education" in Arabic, is Raha's parent corporation. It has launched a new biannual digital magazine called "Inspire." The many interesting articles include pieces on Raha's Dressage Champ Alexandra Millar, our Family Fun Night, our applications for additional accreditation, and "Raha Goes Global," a list of colleges and universities last year's first graduating class were accepted at around the world.
